how to use a cock ring

We've never seen a cock ring that came with instructions, which is funny because none of us at the store knew how to use them before someone showed us (unless we all managed to miss that one day at school when they covered cock rings in Sex Ed. class). Cock rings are relatively easy to use, but there are a few important safety considerations to keep in mind:

  • Never wear a ring for more than 30 minutes at a time.
  • If you're feeling discomfort or pain, remove the ring immediately.
  • Don't use "makeshift" cock rings that could be difficult to remove.

Beyond that, here are some general tips on how to use a cock ring that you may find useful.

start solo

Even if you're planning on using a cock ring with a partner, we recommend trying it out first on your own. This gives you the chance to figure out how it works, learn how to put it on and take it off, and make sure that it fits right and feels good. We recommend putting the ring on and masturbating to orgasm. Move around while you play you're your cock ring and see what it feels like in action.

wear it right

Make sure you know how the ring goes on before you buy it. Most cock rings go around the base of the penis and behind the scrotum, but some are designed to just go around the base, and some will have extra straps that go around the scrotum separately. You can always experiment with different ways of wearing your cock ring, as long as you aren't pinching or cutting any skin. If it's hurting it's on wrong.

don't forget the lube

Using a good quality lubricant can make it a lot easier to get cock rings on and off. The one exception to this is cock rings that have a sliding bead or knot for size adjusting. If you get lube on the part that moves it can prevent it from staying in place and make the cock ring useless until the lube dries. You don't need to put lube on the ring, but a little bit on you makes everything go on and off more smoothly.

partner meet cock ring

Cock rings can be something you use but don't focus on during sex, or they can be a focal point of sex play. Letting your partner put a ring on can be very sexy (particularly if the ring goes on after you get an erection, as they may have to help with that…). You or your partner can also use the ring to pull on your cock and balls during sex.

cock rings and condoms

You can use cock rings with condoms as long as you are careful that the ring isn't in a position where it can tear the condom. Cock rings that fit on the shaft of the penis aren't recommended for use with condoms, only those that fit behind the scrotum.
