how to choose anal beads

Because there aren't a lot of non-sex toy experiences that are quite like using anal beads, choosing which anal beads to buy is always a bit of a gamble. The two main considerations when choosing anal beads is the size of the beads and what the material the anal beads are made of.

Sizing Up Your Anal Beads

If you haven't explored anal penetration before, you should start with your own, or someone else's fingers (if you're just beginning, check out our tips on enjoying anal play). We don't recommend anal beads be the first thing you put in your bum. But once you've got a sense of what anal penetration is like, beads can be an interesting and fun way to explore. Some anal beads start small and as you move up the length the beads get larger (like Fun Factory's Bendy Beads). Other anal beads come in different sizes, but have the same size on each strand. We recommend starting small.

What's In Your Beads?

Traditionally anal beads were a series of hard plastic or soft rubber beads knotted on a string or cord. We don't recommend this style of anal beads as they are very difficult to keep clean, the hard plastic beads often have a sharp seam that needs to be carefully filed down, and the knots in the string can be uncomfortable.

We recommend anal beads that are a solid piece of material (no string). These kinds of anal beads are available in plain rubber/jelly rubber anal beads or silicone. Silicone anal beads are preferable as they last longer and are easier to clean (they can be boiled in water or put in the top rack of your dishwasher). But plain rubber anal beads can be much less expensive, and if you are worried about the safety of the material you can put a condom on the toy.
