One Man/Show: drawings and paintings about Steve by Kimberley Whitchurch
Come As You Are is pleased to announce the launch of One Man/Show: drawings and paintings about Steve, June 1-30. This our third solo exhibition by Toronto-based artist Kimberley Whitchurch. After two previous collections mixing classic life drawing with modern burlesque pin-ups, Kimberley's new show depicts images of just one model: Steve, the artist's muse. Several years of working together have resulted in a wide range of works, including humorous pencil sketches, formal watercolours, a large and delicate kink portrait, and a sombre ink drawing of the model mere days after his cardiac surgery. Opening reception Thursday, June 13, 2013 - 7PM - 10PM Artist and Model will both be present.
Kimberley Whitchurch was born in England, raised partly there and mostly in Nova Scotia and Quebec, and is Torontonian by choice. After graduating from the Ontario College of Art, she studied theatrical costume design at Dalhousie University. Always a multifaceted generalist, Kimberley's career has included stints in wardrobe and design for film, theatre, opera, and ballet. Known for both illustration and portraiture, she has recently begun working in both sculpture and oil painting, and is also a top-rated entertainment caricaturist. Kimberley has exhibited artwork in many group shows, in Toronto, Montreal, New York, Halifax, Trois-Rivieres, and York, England. One Man/Show: drawings and paintings about Steve is her third solo show at Come As You Are.
