About Come As You Are

There are so many things that make Come As You Are unique: we were founded in 1997 as a worker-cooperative, we’re fundamentally anti-capitalist in our approach to sex toy retail, and we take an activist stance in our approach to sexual health, education, and pleasure.

As a worker-cooperative, our shop is run democratically by its worker-members. This means that we never profit when you purchase your new favourite toy, book, or gender affirming gear from us. Instead, any profits go back into worker wages, keeping our prices low, and providing low cost gender-affirming gear to our community.

Unlike most sex shops, none of our workers make commission on sales. Instead, we’re interested in helping you find the sex toy that will work best for you - not the one that will generate the most profit for us! Being a sex toy co-operative keeps everything we do honest, ethical and focused on helping you access the resources that will work best for you. We even offer a one year in store warranty on everything we stock!

In our shop, you’ll find fully functioning demos of all of our products so that you can get a full sense of how each toy works and how they feel in your hand. We try every single product in our shop to ensure all of our toys do what they claim to, work well, and are safe to use. If you see a toy on our shelves or on our website, it is because someone here has loved it and thinks you will too! Most shops just stock products that will make them the most money without much concern for quality, reliability, or utility.

Sex Toys Can Change The World!

We fundamentally believe that sexuality is a human right. Sexuality is as essential to the human experience as eating or breathing and yet, mainstream culture merely peddles titillation and shame to make money off our desires and insecurities.

While most sex shops exist just to make money, we’re focused on providing an open, judgment-free environment where anyone can discover and access paths to sexual health and pleasure.

Exploring your own sexuality and pleasure is a thoroughly anti-capitalist act unto itself. Every moment we spend engaging in our sexual and sensual pleasure is a moment we steal from capitalism.

When we invest time in exploring our relationship with ourselves and our partners, we’re making a statement that our value is not based on our ability to be “productive”. When we prioritize our own body-based pleasure, we de-prioritize capitalist burnout culture.

Human sexuality is a sacred birthright that deserves to be honoured. While some believe that sexual health and pleasure are frivolous indulgences, we believe that connecting with our own bodies on our own terms is essential to human liberation.

Not only can we improve our relationships with other people when we connect to our own bodies, we can more deeply connect to our communities and foster a culture of care for other people and the environment we live in.
