Newsletter No. 63: SUMMER 2013

Back To Sex School!

While many students absolutely dread the beginning of the school year, our friends and fans universally look forward to our fall workshop season.

If you’ve never been to a Come As You Are workshop before, there are a few things you should know.  Most importantly, we do not teach the workshops we hold in our shop.  Instead, we scour the Earth for educators, authors, activists, artists, and academics who have a depth of knowledge about the subjects they teach.

Further, we look for educators who are ethical, honest, and refuse to pander to simplistic ideas about sex.  Oh, and of course, all of our workshop facilitators have an unbridled enthusiasm for what they do and put on a great show for attendees to boot!

This fall, we are honoured to be graced with the presence of some of our most favourite educators from near and far.

Ducky Doolittle is one the most personable, entertaining, and generous of heart people we know, and no one will give you a more honest and empowering lesson on how to give a great blow job than she will.  Not only that, but she does her Sex for Survivors workshop for FREE each and every time she visits.  If you’re nervous about attending a workshop, Ducky’s comforting presence will make you feel right at home.

Midori is known throughout the world for her Japanese Rope Bondage workshops (and books!), but her workshops are about so much more than bondage or BDSM or even sex.  Midori’s work embodies a sex-positive philosophy that transcends sex and can inspire and transform one’s entire life.

Shannon Bell’s Female Ejaculation and the G-Spot workshop has been a co-op and customer favourite for over a decade, and as a York University professor, she is especially skilled at communicating her personal and researched knowledge to eager students.  Her workshop teaches the ins-and-outs of the g-spot, the politics of ejaculation, and even features a live demo!

Local academic, activist, and polyamory enthusiast
Andrea Zanin is continuing her series of polyamory and non-monogamy workshops with her discussion-based Lessons In Non-Monogamy workshop.  Ideal for anyone looking to explore non-monogamy and for folks who want to share what they’ve already learned.

We know that for a lot of folks even stepping into a sex shop can be a daunting or nerve-wracking experience, and we’re keenly aware that our culture doesn’t encourage the sharing of personal (and sexual) ideas in a group setting.

However, we truly believe that there is almost nothing more affirming than realizing that there are so many folks out there who share our fears and desires.  Our workshops are an amazing opportunity to not just learn about a particular sex act, but to also learn something new about yourself.
