The G-Spot Does Not Exist.
It seems like there’s a new study released almost every week about the g-spot: It exists; It doesn’t exist; It might exist but with caveats. What a mystery! Can you imagine? It is 2015, and a little over half the world’s population’s sexual pleasure is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside a vagina.
We don’t know about you, but to us, it seems like there’s something a bit fishy going on here. We have the most advanced technology in the history of the known universe, but we can’t get a straight answer from science about the g-spot? Curious.
The issue with the analysis of ‘the g-spot’ is that we all seem to be asking the wrong questions - possibly for all of the wrong reasons.
First of all, given that more than 70% of female-identified people don’t have orgasms from penetration alone, why are folks so darn concerned with the g-spot? It is great to fantasize - or sext - about how hot it might be to ‘come together’, but unless you’ve got some serious external or clitoral stimulation happening at the same time, mostly it isn’t gonna happen.
If you find yourself obsessing over female ejaculation and the g-spot because squirting looks so awesome in porn, try to remember that the people who get hired to squirt in porn get those jobs precisely because they are ferocious squirters and amazing performers - not necessarily because they’re amazing at actually having sex they enjoy. Lots of porn performers do what they love, but when it comes down to it, it is a job not dissimilar to yours in lots of ways.
Frankly, it feels a lot like a couple thousand years of sex negative culture capped off by a little misguided Freudian influence has created this bizarre situation where we are less interested in what might create a fulfilling sexual experience for ourselves, and more interested in particular sexual ideas and acts because of what they symbolize in our culture.
As an anti-capitalist co-op sex shop, we’re as interested in experiences as we are in symbols, and as such, we think it is important to enable people to have access to sexuality and to explore the meaning of that sexual pleasure.
Yes, the title of this newsletter is a bit misleading. We’d never be so presumptuous to tell you what your body does or does not contain, or what may or may not exist for you.
What we can tell you is that most people - regardless of gender, sexuality, or orientation - have a urethral sponge or a prostate. We can also tell you that some people - but not all people - enjoy having that area of their body stimulated. Sometimes, when one is stimulating the urethral sponge or prostate, ejaculation occurs. Sometimes you’ll need a towel when this happens and sometimes you just need a tissue.
We can also tell you that some people like naming their body parts after German scientists (shout out to Dr. Gräfenberg!), and some people don’t. Whether you have a spot a couple of inches inside your fave orifice that you like to stimulate or not, rest assured, we’ll never assume anything about your body, and we hope you don’t either.
Coming Out As A Deliciously Disabled,
Queer Cripple
A workshop with Andrew Morrison-Gurza
Thursday, September 24, 2015. 7:30PM-9:30PM
This workshop will introduce you to a part of the Queer Community we rarely discuss – Persons with Disabilities who identify as LGBTQ+ (The Queer Cripple). Queers with Disabilities are sorely underrepresented in our homo-normative, body beautiful culture, and I aim to change that. A combination of education and personal experiences will invite you into a conversation around the Queer Cripple, the lived experiences navigating both sexuality and disability (ie. What it actually feels like to be queer and disabled), and what they can offer the LGBTQ+ community overall. Participants will openly explore the mythology and fear around sex and disability, and consider why we are afraid to talk about disability in the LGBTQ+ community. Ultimately, through frank, open and honest conversations around disability, sexuality and queerness, the workshop will provide the tools to welcome the Queer Community into the conversation around disability and make it truly accessible to everyone under the rainbow. $10 or PWYC
