Newsletter No. 74: VALENTINES 2016

If you’ve read our newsletters, tweets, or maybe swung by our shop for a Sunday hello, you probably know that we don’t think holidays like Valentine’s Day are truly all sunshine and roses.
 
So often Hallmark-y gigs like this one do little but pressure folks to toe the line of western capitalist constructs of love, intimacy, and, of course, spending.  Which is the pits. With the dollar falling at an alarming rate, and the drudgery of winter stretching ahead for many more weeks, Valentine’s feels like an easy target for our anti-capitalist-blues.
 
But, as with so many things, what happens on February 14th is really just whatever you decide to do.  Maybe it’s one of those days you don’t notice until two days later.  Maybe it’s a day where you get together with an old pal and eat gratuitous amounts of takeout and discounted heart-shaped chocolate.  Maybe it’s a day you go whole-hog on, complete with rose petals and bubble baths and whispering sweet nothings to a special someone.

Reducing ideas to launching points to create your own truths is powerful stuff, and we hope that, whatever your socialized ideas are about Valentine’s Day, to try and whittle the idea down to whatever it is that genuinely works for you, and cling tightly to that truth.  Really, the same can be said for our genders, sexual orientations, life goals, and relationship styles, but that’s a thought for another day. 
 
So, as purveyors of sexy delights, if your goals over the next few weeks include a hot new toy to play with, or a fresh bottle of your favourite lube, we’re here for you.  And, we’re oh so invested in supporting you as you explore your truths.
